Trevor Stebbins Is Uniquely Qualified To Understand
Written by admin on January 30, 2010 – 1:43 am -The most obvious questions in the couple of months after the 2008 financial crisis was, “Who knew what was going on? How exactly did it happen? And who could have stopped it?”. No individual can claim that they have all of the answers to those questions (alright, they can, but no one will believe them). Having more people working in the finance industry who knew its ins-and-outs certainly wouldn’t have hurt. We might even have been able to stave off any recession if we had consulted these people in the months or years before the recession. We might have been able to use what they thought was wrong with the finance industry to our advantage.
There aren’t many people, indeed there never have been many people, who know a great deal about the financial industry. Indeed, few Americans even really want to understand the industry, they only want to reap its rewards. America only pays attention to the economy, or the industry of finance, when things start to go badly. When things are going well, we (myself included) pretend that the magical finance-fairies have worked their magic on the economy. Contrary to that fanciful idea, it isn’t the work of any mythical finance creature, it is the work of knowledgeable individuals in the industry keeping a weather eye.
